Interactions are the customer-facing touchpoints that aren't tickets — vCIO meetings, sales conversations, training sessions, in-person pop-ins. They live on each Customer Company profile so you have one running record of every meaningful conversation with that customer. This article covers logging past interactions, scheduling future ones, and using them to power your vCIO motion.
What an Interaction is
An Interaction is one customer touchpoint, captured with:
- Date — when the interaction happened (or is scheduled to happen).
- Reporter — the Member at your MSP who owned the interaction.
- Interaction type — what kind of touchpoint it was. ZestMSP offers five types: Marketing, Pop in, Sales, Training Meeting, and vCIO.
- Notes — context about what was discussed.
The Interactions tab on a customer profile shows the customer's full history plus a callout for the next scheduled interaction.
See upcoming and past Interactions
- Open the Customer Company (Customers → Companies → click the customer).
- Click the Interactions tab.
At the top you'll see Your next scheduled interaction — a highlighted card with the date, type, status (e.g., Scheduled), and Primary resource. Below it, the past interactions list shows columns for Interaction, Date, Reporter, and Interaction type.
Use Quick Filter to narrow by type or date range when reviewing history before a QBR.
Schedule an Interaction
To put a future meeting on the books:
- On the customer's Interactions tab, click Reschedule interaction (this is also how you schedule a new one).
- Pick the date and time.
- Choose the Interaction type (e.g., vCIO).
- Set the Primary resource — the Member who'll lead it.
- Save.
The scheduled interaction appears at the top of the Interactions tab and, if the relevant calendar integration is connected, syncs to your Microsoft Outlook or Google Calendar.
Log a past Interaction
To record an interaction that's already happened:
- On the customer's Interactions tab, click + Log interaction.
- Set the date, Interaction type, Reporter, and notes.
- Save.
The interaction joins the customer's history. Use this for ad-hoc conversations that weren't pre-scheduled — a hallway chat with the CTO, a quick phone call about an urgent request.
Resolve a scheduled Interaction
When a scheduled interaction has happened, click Resolve on its card to mark it complete. The interaction moves from the Your next scheduled interaction slot down into the history list, where it appears with a status like Did it.
This keeps your next scheduled slot accurate — your team always sees the actual next touchpoint, not stale entries from last quarter.
Use Interactions for your vCIO motion
Interactions and IT Goals are designed to work together. A typical vCIO rhythm:
- Schedule a recurring vCIO Interaction every quarter on each managed customer's profile.
- Pull up the customer's IT goals tab before the meeting to use as your agenda.
- Hold the meeting; update IT Goal statuses and add new goals as they're decided.
- Resolve the Interaction.
- Schedule the next one.
Over time the Interactions history becomes the timeline of your strategic relationship with each customer — exactly what you want to walk into a renewal conversation with.
Tips for clean Interactions data
- Match the Interaction type to the conversation: vCIO for strategic planning, Sales for renewal or upsell conversations, Training Meeting for end-user training sessions, Marketing for outreach, Pop in for ad-hoc on-site visits.
- Always set a Primary resource so accountability is clear.
- Resolve scheduled interactions promptly — a stale next scheduled card defeats the purpose.
- Use the customer's Notes tab for free-form context that doesn't belong to a specific meeting.
